The Process
Introduction
I realize just how special that these gowns are to my clients and take very seriously the trust that they place in my hands. Whether the gown was worn at your wedding or it is your great-grandmother’s from the 1940’s, each is an heirloom which holds a special place in your heart.
As exciting of an experience that transforming your gown can be, many of my clients that have not been through this before can be very nervous in the beginning stages. Over time, I have learned that explaining the process upfront can put people’s minds at ease. Therefore, I would like to take a moment and give you a peak into the process of how the original gown is transformed from inspiration to the final reveal.
I am beyond excited to share this process with you!
The Inspiration
During your first visit at our Design Consultation, we will look over the gown together and discuss the details of the gown. However, our conversation will go well beyond just the technical details of the gown. I want to hear the story behind the garment and about what makes it special to you. These stories usually serve as the best sources of inspiration for the design ideas that will follow. At the end of the Design Consultation you will leave your garment with me and the transformation will begin.
The Design
In most cases, our discussions at the Design Consultation will form the basis of the design. I will verbally explain my ideas and seek your input during this time together. After our Design Consultation I will contact you as needed to discuss the design progress and any new ideas that we might need to discuss. If I believe that it is necessary to support the design process, sketches will be drafted and shared after the Design Consultation. The need and expectations for design sketches will be discussed at this time.
The Preparation
Before the first cut of the garment begins, the gown will be styled for one last photo shoot. I will provide you with a digital image of this photograph so that you can look back and compare after you have received the transformed gown. Prior to the photo shoot the gown will also be cleaned in an attempt to remove discolorations that occurred prior to the gown being turned over to me.
The Production
Every step of the production process is completed at my studio located in Upper Providence Township, Pennsylvania. Every cut of the fabric and every stitch sewn is by my own hands and with my own equipment. All patterns are drafted by myself to help ensure proper fit and styling of the finished garment.
During the production process, additional appointments and fittings may be required. The need and timing for any additional appointments will discussed and finalized at our Design Consultation.
The Reveal
This is by far my favorite part of the entire process. I love the joy and anticipation of seeing your reaction to the finished garment. During this final appointment at my studio the transformed garment will be revealed to you. I will talk you through all the tiny details and explain where each piece on the new garment was on the original gown.
You will be able to walk away from this final appointment knowing that the original garment with a special place in your heart has a new life and will continue to bring joy to you and those people that are close to you.
Breathing life into family heirlooms for the next generation.
